A full-scale festive fair with rides, food, ice attractions and skating. Choose this for a lively outing with several activities in one place.

Build your day around one or two paid attractions, then leave room to wander. Outdoor queues can feel cold; bring layers even if part of your visit is under cover.

An illuminated evening trail through the gardens. A good choice when the light installations themselves are the main event.

Keep the evening free for Kew rather than squeezing it between central London bookings. Choose your entry gate before arranging the journey.

Skate at Somerset House

An outdoor courtyard rink for a classic central London winter evening. Pair it with a wander through nearby Covent Garden.

Put your skating session first in the plan, then choose dinner nearby. Check arrival instructions, skate hire and beginner support with the venue.

Confirmed · Read the Skate at Somerset House guide

Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink

An outdoor skate with a palace backdrop, suited to visitors making a longer trip beyond central London.

Allow time for the outward and return journeys. If you want the palace as well, plan around its opening hours, not just your skating slot.

Confirmed · Read the Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink guide

Southbank Centre Winter Market

A riverside festive market within the Southbank Centre winter programme, with food and seasonal stalls.

Use South Bank as the focus of one afternoon rather than crossing the city between stops. A nearby indoor attraction makes a useful weather backup.

Festive decorations, a Christmas tree and the Market Building make this an easy stop on a West End walk.

Combine the piazza with dinner or a theatre visit. It works well as a flexible stop between booked activities.

Season announced · Read the Christmas in Covent Garden guide

Christmas in Leicester Square

A compact festive stop to consider when exploring the West End. Its central location makes it easy to combine with Covent Garden.

Treat it as a stop on a wider walk rather than the only reason for a full day in London. Confirm this season’s programme first.

Awaiting dates · Read the Christmas in Leicester Square guide

Winter Funland London

An indoor fair format worth watching for a family winter trip. The organiser’s available London page describes the previous season at Olympia.

It could be a useful rainy-day option if a new season is confirmed. Do not build a paid travel plan around the old listing.

Awaiting dates · Read the Winter Funland London guide

Hogwarts in the Snow

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour’s festive feature dresses original film sets for winter. A strong choice for Harry Potter fans.

Reserve a substantial part of the day including travel. Leavesden is outside central London; compare independent travel with a package that includes transport.

Confirmed · Read the Hogwarts in the Snow guide

Alexandra Palace Ice Rink

An indoor skating alternative for visitors who prefer shelter from the weather. Look at public sessions separately from shows and ice discos.

Choose the session type that matches your group. A performance on the ice means watching a show, not a public skating session.

Year-round venue · Read the Alexandra Palace Ice Rink guide

Cinderella on Ice

A festive ice performance at Alexandra Palace, combining a familiar story with skating. The venue recommends it for ages three and up.

Allow around two hours for the performance, including an interval, plus your journey. This is a seated show rather than a skating lesson.

Confirmed · Read the Cinderella on Ice guide

Canary Wharf Ice Rink

The organiser has announced a break for the 2026 winter season. Older ticket and news pages may still suggest a return.

Choose Somerset House for an outdoor central London rink, or Alexandra Palace for an indoor option.

The Thames fireworks are a major reason to plan a New Year trip. The official page we verified still covers the previous celebration.

Wait for the new viewing-zone and ticket rules. Plan a late-night journey home and do not assume unrestricted riverside access.

The Lion King

Make a West End performance the centrepiece of an evening, with a walk through Covent Garden beforehand. The Lion King brings Disney’s story to the stage at the Lyceum.

Choose the performance before reserving dinner. Leave time to collect or display your tickets and find your seats without rushing.

Wicked

An evening in Oz makes an indoor anchor for a winter trip. Wicked plays at the Apollo Victoria, useful when staying near Victoria or planning an evening in this part of London.

Keep your pre-theatre plans around Victoria. The Apollo Victoria and the Apollo Theatre are different venues; use the address on your ticket.

The Phantom of the Opera

Set aside an evening for the music and drama of The Phantom of the Opera. Its Haymarket theatre fits a day spent around Trafalgar Square and the West End.

A shorter afternoon walk leaves time for dinner and the theatre. Check the seat description carefully if a clear view is a priority.

Mamma Mia!

ABBA’s songs give a winter evening a lively soundtrack at the Novello Theatre. Pair the musical with time in Covent Garden, then keep the rest of the evening simple.

Pick a performance that works with your journey home. Allow breathing room after dinner instead of planning a meal across town.

Light projections and music transform Westminster Cathedral into an immersive setting. It is one to watch for a London visit, although a Christmas or winter extension has not been verified.

Go to Westminster Cathedral on Victoria Street, not Westminster Abbey. Allow time to arrive and take your seat; the experience lasts around 50 minutes.

London sightseeing by panoramic black cab

A private four-hour sightseeing tour can give a first London visit a useful overview. This panoramic black cab listing focuses on the city’s landmarks rather than a specific Christmas programme.

Use it early in your trip to get your bearings. Tell the provider what matters to your group, then leave time afterwards to revisit a favourite area independently.
